Counter-Strike 2 is a game where players chase very high frame rates to match high-refresh monitors. Unlike most new games, its performance at competitive settings often depends more on the CPU than the graphics card.

Why the CPU matters

At low graphics settings and 1080p or 1440p, the GPU has an easy job and the CPU becomes the limit. CPUs with large caches, like AMD’s X3D chips such as the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, do especially well in CPU-limited games like CS2.

Memory

Fast, dual-channel RAM helps in CPU-limited games. Use two sticks and enable XMP or EXPO.

The monitor

High frame rates matter most when your monitor can display them. A 240Hz or higher screen such as the BenQ ZOWIE XL2546X is built for competitive shooters.

The mouse

For aim, a light, comfortable mouse like the Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 matters more than extra frames once you’re above your monitor’s refresh rate.

Settings that raise FPS

  • Lower shadow quality, ambient occlusion, and effect detail.
  • Use the game’s lowest-latency settings, including NVIDIA Reflex if available in your version.
  • Close background apps that use CPU, such as browsers with many tabs.

Stable beats peak

A stable frame rate feels better than a higher average with drops. Watch your 1% low FPS, not just the average.

Bottom line

For CS2, invest in a strong gaming CPU, dual-channel RAM and a high-refresh monitor, then tune settings for stable frame rates.
